Description

Ak’tapi
Coffee grounds, tobacco leaves, MATE leaves, cocoa, sugar, seaweed,
animal gelatin
Variable dimensions: 150cm x 65cm x 15cm

In the Andes region of Bolivia, meals with family or friends are made on the ground. The food is placed on fabrics, the aguayos, and we sit on the ground around these fabrics. Everyone is free to take with their hands what they want to eat: these are the Ak’tapi.
A second version of my café table would be an Ak’tapi. A table on the ground: in direct contact with the Earth.
The fabrics become “bioplastics” composed of all the products that we generally consume in a café: sugar, tea, tobacco, coffee, mate, cocoa. Products loaded with colonial history.
Ak’tapi invites discussion in order to build a living thought, in full mutation, and not a thought frozen in tradition or beliefs: molds, living organisms, are free to develop.
